Bay-Sat/PolarSat Team Completes Preliminary Network Acceptance Testing of the Full Mesh MF-TDMA VSATPlus®3 Ghana Air Traffic Control Network
BAY-SAT/POLARSAT TEAM COMPLETES PRELIMINARY NETWORK ACCEPTANCE TESTING OF THE FULL MESH MF-TDMA VSATPlus®3 GHANA AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL NETWORK
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, March 13, 2018, PolarSat Inc. the technology leader in full mesh hubless VSAT modem technology, is pleased to announce that, together with their teammate BAY-SAT Engineering and Technologie GmbH of Germany, the completion of the GHANA Civil Aviation Air Traffic Control (ATC) network acceptance testing (NAT). The Network Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications network supports critical application traffic like VHF Extended Range voice, Radar, Telephony, AFTN traffic for the air traffic control communications network in Ghana. This network is a strategic element within the Civil Aviation Authority of Ghana’s (GCAA) vision to provide high reliable IP based Air Traffic Control system.

The Ghana ATC network consists of total of 6 remote sites and Air Traffic Control (ATC) sector control station all connected in a full mesh all-IP based network. The VSAT network configured to utilize a fully redundant network via a MPLS based fiber optic network. This network provides backbone connectivity for VHF voice communications relay to cover the national airspace of Ghana and Sao Tome.
The airspace is controlled by their fully redundant ATC master control VSAT station, located in Accra. Furthermore, the VSATPlus®3 VSAT network provides geographic redundancy of its master control function with automatic switchover to any other node in the network. In the event of an outage of the master control station the VSATPlus®3 system automatically provides connectivity to one of the other remote ATC sites. All sites will support a complex mix of voice and data communications including VHF Extended Range, Hot Lines, Radar, AMHS, metrological data, Intranet, Internet and general corporate internal communications. “The Civil Aviation Authority of Ghana is happy with the excellent collaboration with the BAY-SAT/PolarSat team that has led to a successful project implementation.”, said Mr Charles Kraikue, GCAA’s Director of Engineering .
